Future in doubt for Newcastle Road Transport Awareness Day

Newcastle and Hunter Region Road Transport Awareness Day Group seeks new committee to ensure the event's future.

The future of the Newcastle & Hunter Road Transport Awareness Day is in doubt after it failed to attracte a new committee to organise the event.

The event is due to mark its 21st year this year, but the Awareness Day group’s annual general meeting on July 1 could not get enough people to put their hand up to form a committee.

Group treasurer Lynne Jack, who was voted 2014 Industry Woman of the Year at the National Trucking Industry Awards in June, says the Awareness Day needs committed and enthusiastic people to join.

“This is your event to promote the industry and offers an opportunity to enjoy a day with industry people,” Jack says.

Another attempt to form a committee will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at the Hexham Bowling Club at 6pm. The meeting will seek nominations and elect a committee and discuss future options for the event.

During its history, the Newcastle & Hunter Road Transport Awareness Day has raised much needed funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
