Tough times affect number attending SARTA conference

Strong interest shown in SARTA’s conference, but some say they can’t afford to attend.

South Australian transport operators have expressed strong interest in this year’s South Australian Road Transport Association’s (SARTA) conference.

Up to 130 operators registered to attend the full-day event on March 15 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

However, many are giving the conference a miss due to financial strains, SARTA Executive Director Steve Shearer says.

“There is no doubt that a lot of people are finding it tough. By talking to people there are some that can’t afford it and come every second year,” Shearer says.

“However, any trucking business that can’t find $125 to come must be in a very serious position. It is less than what most would pay in stamps.”

Representatives from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) have been lined up to speak, along with officials from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI).

Those interested in attending the conference can contact SARTA on 08 8445 8177 for more information.
