New boss aims to strengthen overnight country distribution network

Turner takes top role at Asixa
Simone Turner eyes technology improvements

Victorian freight provider Asixa has appointed Simone Turner to the role of CEO.

Turner, who joined the company early last year, has already helped grow the company thanks to her background in business, management and human resources, Founding Director John McMillan says.

"We’ve already seen improvements in operational efficiency and management practices since Simone joined Asixa," McMillan says.

"She has been invaluable in redefining our service offering which will continue to evolve in 2014 to benefit customers and the business."

Before joining Asixa, Turner has worked with global manufacturing firm TriMas Corporation and advisory services firm KPMG and has expertise in human resources.

Her goal is to strengthen Asixa’s overnight country distribution network, she says.

"I see this as a really exciting time to take the helm at Asixa," Turner says.

"Our objective is to pursue continuous improvement in service and more value for our customers.

"We’re in a very promising position for 2014 as we’re increasing our distribution capabilities in key regional centres in Victoria and implementing new technologies usually reserved for the larger, national providers.

"It’s also proving to be an interesting period of change where clients’ distribution needs and the nature of goods are shifting.

"But we’re confident that with our prime location in the growing industrial hub south east of Melbourne and our extensive network throughout regional Victoria, we’re well placed to take advantage of the state’s growing freight task over the long-term."

The company’s former General Manager, Tim Coates has taken up an advisory role.

The business was established in 1995 and has been at its strongest following Coates’ appointment in 2007, McMillan says.

Asixa specialises in overnight freight distribution throughout Victoria, transporting more than one million items each year.

It was named Logistics Leader at the national Logistics and Materials Mercury Awards last year, winning the Victorian Training, Education and Development category at the Victorian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards.
