Roads and streets will be affected by the event

Drivers can expect delays in South Australia when roads close due to a cycling event over the coming week.

There will be delays in the city, Adelaide Hills, the Barossa, Norwood, Unley and Victor Harbour as Santos Tour Down Under goes from Sunday to January 26.

Pre and post-race festivities, including street parties, will be held at these locations att-racting large crowds, South Australia Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Smith says.

There will be a heavy police presence and drivers are asked to be cautious when sharing the road with cyclists.

Traffic restrictions on the Crafers Highway to the Stirling exit will take place on January 24.

"There will be significant delays to traffic travelling out of the city on the Crafers Highway that day, so we’d say choose a different route if at all possible to avoid delays and frustration, or allow extra time for your journey," Smith says.

Police will also conduct drug and alcohol tests.
