Works get underway on major Melbourne road

Major construction work has started on $49 million Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road in Melbourne which is set to improve access, road safety and traffic flow.
Roads Minister Terry Mulder says the upgrade will benefit the 29,000 drivers using the stretch of road every day.
The road will be fully divided for 3.5km between Pound Road and Thompson Road, with the section between Ernst Wanke Road, north of the Monash Freeway to Thompson Road in Cranbourne East, duplicated.
The project is expected to be completed by late 2015.
"The result will be safer and less congested conditions for drivers, with three lanes each way between Ormond Road and Glasscocks Road, and two lanes each way for the other sections between Pound Road and Thompson Road," Mulder says.
"The upgrade of intersections at Ormond Road and Glasscocks Road, and new traffic signals at Rosebank Drive will also help people get to residential and commercial areas more safely and easily."
