Ross Fraser awarded Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the trucking industry
Ross Fraser has been awarded alongside other achievers on Australia Day, gaining recognition for his services to the trucking industry.
Fraser, who is the managing director of Fraser’s Livestock Transport, was given the Medal of the Order of Australia for his work within the industry which stretches back to 1961.
Since becoming involved in the family-run business, Fraser has also devoted time to running industry groups.
He was the president of the Australian Livestock Transporters Association (ALTA) from 1999 to 2001, and was made a life member of ALTA in 2007.
Following his work with the organisation, Fraser was appointed chairman of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) from 2004 to 2006, and is currently a member of the ATA Board and its general council.
ATA Chairman Trevor Martyn congratulated Fraser on the award, saying it recognise his achievements, which include capping the life of trucks and trailers at 7 ½ years rather than 15 years.
“The ATA’s long and effective campaign saved trucking operators almost $9,000 per articulated vehicle per year,” Martyn says.
He says while it is hard to lead an industry association while running a business at the same time, Fraser managed to do both effectively.
“On behalf of the ATA and the whole trucking industry, I want to offer Ross my warmest congratulations on this most significant honour,” Martyn says.
The National Transport Commission (NTC) has also praised Fraser, with Chairman Greg Martin saying Fraser’s commitment has helped promote the interests of the industry to achieve better reforms.
“Ross has a long history of service to the transport industry – dedicating significant time and effort to representing trucking operators through the ATA and other associations – on top of the day-to-day demands of running his business,” Martin says.
“NTC congratulates Ross on his Australia Day recognition and looks forward to continued work with him in the future.”
