Work on a bypass in NSW to improve travel conditions and take trucks off local streets will begin next month

Work is scheduled to begin next month on the Bega Bypass in NSW after Macmahon Contractors landed the contract for the project.
The announcement follows almost three years of planning and consultation, and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport says the bypass is a long-awaited piece of infrastructure.
Eden-Monaro MP Mike Kelly says the bypass, once completed in 2014, will deliver safer and quicker driving conditions on the Princes Highway and take more than 500 trucks a day off the local streets of Bega.
NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay says the project will involve building a new 3.5km two-lane road to the west of the existing highway between the existing Bega River Bridge and Finucane Lane.
“There will also be new bridge crossings at High Street and Ravenswood Street, a new underpass at Applegum Close as well as two major access points linking the town, the bypass and the properties to the west,” Gay says.
