Union to ballot Wettenhalls drivers

TWU given go-ahead to ballot Wettenhalls Group drivers as part of efforts to secure a new enterprise agreement

April 16, 2012

The Transport Workers Union will have the power to push for a strike against the Wettenhalls Group if it does not get its way during negotiations on a new enterprise agreement.

Fair Work Australia has granted the TWU a protected action ballot, which will seek support from Wettenhalls’ drivers for various forms of industrial action.

Fair Work says the ballot must be held before the end of April. Drivers will vote on whether they support overtime and work bans and stoppages ranging from four to 24 hours.

“This action may be organised and/or engaged in on consecutive occasions,” the ballot says.

The union will also seek support from drivers to stop work for an indefinite period. Wettenhalls did not oppose the TWU’s application.
