April 12, 2012

Experienced automotive and retail professional Grant Chugg has been appointed CEO of commercial vehicle hire group Sargent.

Chugg joined Sargent in April 2008 as the National Operations Manager before being appointed as CEO late last year.

He has more than nine years’ experience in the automotive rental and maintenance sector, with five of those as the East Coast Regional Manager for Corefleet.

“This is an exciting challenge for me which provides an opportunity to further expand Sargent’s operations.

“We aim to build on our position as the leading provider of light commercial vehicle rental, fit out and vehicle maintenance services to the infrastructure and resources sectors in Australia,” Chugg says.

Having worked predominantly in the retail sector for more than 18 years, Chugg’s first experience in the automotive industry was when he worked his way through the ranks at Kmart Auto Services to be appointed as Queensland’s State Manager.

Chugg says Sargent is in the process of changing its position within the industry to focus largely on the infrastructure and resources industries, as well as enhancing its presence in mining hotspots such as the Pilbara and Bowen Basin regions.

“Over the last 12 months Sargent has worked to streamline our locations nationally but at the same time we have grown our fleet to more than 3800 vehicles,” he says.

“I’m excited to expand on this momentum and establish Sargent as the leader in these expanding industries.”

Sargent provides rental and maintenance of commercial vehicles to a wide range of customers throughout Australia. The company’s fleet of 3,800 vehicles comprises 4WDs, 2WDs, trucks, buses and specialised vehicles that are provided over a national network of company-owned branches and agencies.
