WARTA says trucking companies that do the right thing on the road have nothing to fear

The Western Australian Road Transport Association (WARTA) says trucking companies that do the right thing on the road have nothing to fear.
WARTA CEO Ian King has touched on the recent media coverage surrounding the industry following blitzes on trucking companies and charges against individual drivers.
“Those that do the right thing have nothing to worry about but when they take shortcuts, that’s when they will get caught out and when they do get caught up it could be a very expensive catch-out,” King says.
“If you do the right thing then don’t, for heaven’s sake, give the media the opportunity of us being a cheap shot.”
A 24-year-old truck driver was last month charged with multiple dangerous driving offences after hitting two people on the side of the Hume Highway on February 15. A two truck driver had stopped to assist a woman whose car broke down when the heavy vehicle hit them.
“There was a huge cry about it and of course the mainstream press is slamming all of the transport operators,” King says.
“There are always the cowboys that we have to worry about but I can tell you it’s nothing like it used to be. Most of the big companies are driving pretty good trucks and there’s not that much old stuff on major highways.”
