VECCI wants focus on infrastructure

Victorian employers group lists upgrade to the Eastern Freeway as a priority for the state’s government when it hands down its next budget

March 27, 2012

The Victorian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) wants the Victorian Government to connect the Eastern Freeway to the Ring Road in its next budget.

VECCI CEO Mark Stone has also called for funding for a metro rail link connecting Footscray to South Yarra to be established when the budget is handed down.

The group believes infrastructure investment will help support Victorian business growth and competitiveness, along with taxation reform and lower utility costs.

“Business and consumer confidence is low. Our members have told us that over the next 12 months they’re predicting a further general decline in business conditions nationally, with little improvement in sales volumes, selling prices or employment,” Stone says.
