Queensland truck driver receives $8600 after investigation reveals his employer made unauthorised deductions from his wages

A truck driver has been handed an $8600 after an investigation revealed his employer made unauthorised deductions from his wages.
The driver, based west of Toowoomba in Queensland, received the reimbursement as part of a Fair Work Ombudsman investigation into businesses in the Darling Downs region.
The Ombudsman says the business, which has not been named, has now put processes in place to ensure a similar breach does not happen again.
“In the circumstances in that case the deductions weren’t warranted, so the employee was reimbursed,” a spokesman for the Fair Work Ombudsman says.
ATN has sought comment on why the deductions were made.
The Ombudsman recovered a total of $64,200 for workers in the Darling Downs region, with one employee receiving $18,000.
The investigation uncovered underpayments to a range of workers, including four labourers and four service industry workers.
