Nominations open for trucking award

Nominations open for the 2012 Highway Guardian Award, which recognises truck drivers’ heroics

March 29, 2012

Nominations have opened for the Australian Trucking Association's (ATA) 2012 Highway Guardian Award, which recognises truck drivers’ heroics while on the road.

The winner will receive $5000 from Continental Tyres, which sponsors the event. The winner will also be handed a trophy, which will be presented during the ATA's National Trucking Industry Awards on May 18.

Nominations are open until April 20, and the ATA has asked a person to nominate someone who has performed a heroic or gallant act while working.

"Australia’s trucking industry is filled with hardworking men and women who will go out of their way to help those around them. This award honours the winner and finalists, and will encourage everyone in the industry to live up to our old reputation as the knights of the road," ATA Chairman David Simon says.

The 2011 gong went to Michael Munchow from Sedl Transport, who rescued a man and woman during the Queensland floods.
