February 15, 2012

A section of the Bruce Highway in north Queensland has been closed after a fatal collision involving two trucks today.

Police officers are currently at the scene of the accident at Ilbilbie, south of Mackay.

Queensland Police says preliminary information suggests the two trucks collided about 7:45am just south of the Ilbilbie service station. One man died at the scene.

Diversions have been put in place for vehicles. Queensland Police says southbound traffic needs to turn off the highway at Sarina and take the Sarina Range Road following all the way to Marlborough (old Bruce Highway) where it again meets the highway.

“Northbound traffic needs to turn off the Bruce Highway at Marlborough and follow the Marlborough – Sarina (old Bruce Highway) Road to Sarina,” it says.

“This diversion is only open to vehicles under 19 metres long. B-double configurations are not permitted.”

Queensland Police has urged motorists to take care and significantly reduce their speed when travelling on the Marlborough – Sarina Road.

Traffic control officers have been despatched to the Sarina Range.
