DP World back on track at Port Botany

Stevedore welcomes first train after four-week infrastructure upgrade boosts capacity

February 27, 2012

Rail upgrades at DP World’s Port Botany terminal are complete, the stevedore says.

The first train arrived at the expanded rail facility this morning.

"Works commenced at the end of January 2012 involving the terminal, external contractors, and Australian Rail Track Corporation as joint partners," DP World Port Botany General Manager Mark Bellears says.

He adds that the "increased infrastructure capacity includes the creation of a dual-entry and exit point for rail.

"The additional capacity will offer new rail windows, providing up to 500 additional rail moves per week."

The upgrade added a third operational siding, which should allow for longer trains, and concrete rail buffers that replaced earthen ones.
