The planned closure of a section of the Cunningham’s Highway to allow an oversized rig to travel unimpeded on the route will no longer go ahead.
The trucking operator that was scheduled to haul oversized mining equipment through Cunningham’s Gap south-west of Brisbane has informed the state’s road authority the trip can no longer be made.
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads says talks with the operator are continuing to arrange passage through the area.
The trucking operator’s decision means the oversized load will not be able to travel until early next year.
Police recently notified Transport and Main Roads that state-wide Christmas holiday travel restrictions would not allow the truck and the accompanying convoy to use the route from December 19 to January 3.
Motorists and transport operators were yesterday told the Gap would be closed from 9:30pm today until 4am on December 16.
The highway was scheduled to be closed between the Fisher Park Truck Stop at Maryvale on the western side of the Gap and Lake Moogerah Road at Mount Edwards on the eastern side.
