All systems go on Devils Pulpit upgrade

Work begins on another section of Pacific Highway duplication, with the upgrade tipped to improve travelling conditions

December 13, 2011

Work on another section of the Pacific Highway duplication has started, with the upgrade expected to improve travelling conditions for truck drivers and motorists on the NSW North Coast.

The first sod was turned today on the $73 million Devils Pulpit project, which is being funded by the NSW and federal governments.

As well as duplicating a section of road, the upgrade will install animal crossings and lay new drainage to reduce the likelihood of flooding during heavy downpours.

“Once completed in 2013, the Devils Pulpit Upgrade will deliver safer, smoother driving conditions for the 8,000 motorists and truck drivers who use this section of the Pacific Highway each and every day,” Page MP Janelle Saffin says.

NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay says the Pacific Highway upgrade will improve the road’s capacity to move freight between Australian cities in the coming decades.
