Truck driver killed in a crash in rural Victoria last weekend will be farewelled by a convoy of trucks

A Victorian truck driver who was killed in a crash in rural Victoria last weekend will be farewelled by a convoy of trucks.
Steven ‘Normie’ Elford, 46, was carting gravel to the Glenthompson wind farm project when a car of five people failed to give way, colliding into the truck in the Southern Grampians town of Penshurst on Saturday.
Elford and four of the car’s occupants were killed instantly, with the fifth passenger later dying in hospital.
Elford is survived by his nine-year-old daughter Maggie, wife Raelene and two stepchildren. Elford’s brother David says Normie loved Kenworth trucks and was driving for many companies for over 20 years.
He drove interstate trucks for several of years before turning to Terang about a year ago to work with WA Molan and Sons.
“He enjoyed life and he liked having fun with the kids,” David says
“He always laughed and liked going to dress up parties. He also had many truck toys and a Kenworth jacket – he loves Kenworth.”
David says he saw Normie the morning of the accident.
“Normie drove past me that morning and waved at me, he was due to go to a birthday party that night,” he says.
Many transport companies across the country have offered their trucks to participate in the convoy, with one company donating its new Kenworth to carry Normie for the funeral.
“Normie had no trucks and he always wanted a Kenworth so I know he would like that,” David says.
