Metropolitan Express Services will launch its Fall Prevention Safety System (FPSS) in Melbourne tomorrow to prevent injuries and deaths in the trucking industry.

The FPSS is designed to provide a working-at-heights safety solution for flat-top rigid and semi-trailers.

Metropolitan Express Services Director Sam Pantou says the trailer curtain can easily be activated by the driver and has minimal impact on the load capacity of the vehicle.

“This will change the industry in many ways – not only will it assist prevention of possible deaths but it also helps clean the industry up,” he says.

“There is a basic need for drivers to sometimes access the back of a flat-top right tray or semi-trailer to adjust material or adjust load restraint equipment. This over time has proven to be extremely dangerous and results in numerous incidents of injury and sometimes death.”

The system will be launched at Docklands by the Victorian Transport Association.
