A police investigation is underway into a fatal truck and car collision on the Castlereagh Highway in central west NSW yesterday.

About 5:30pm, police and emergency services were called to the scene at Blackmans Flat following reports of a truck and car collision. A northbound tipper truck and a southbound car had collided head-on.

A male car passenger died at the scene and the 28-year-old driver suffered serious head and chest injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

The truck driver was uninjured in the collision and was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Police yesterday closed a section of the highway to allow investigation officers to examine the incident.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing and police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner,” a statement from NSW Police says.
