Short delays can be expected of the Warrego and Cunningham highways as reconstruction gets underway

Flood repairs to Darling Downs roads is underway, with the Warrego Highway and Amiens Road presently beneficiaries of Federal and Queensland Government funds.
The state is awarding contracts under jointly funded Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements as part of a joint spend of $435 million to reconstruct 200 km of road in the region, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads says.
Work is currently proceeding on sections of the Warrego Highway, including the $27.4 million project between Macalister and Warra, west of Dalby, to widen a 13km section of the highway to 10 metres and eliminate several low-level floodways.
This aims to improve driver safety and flood immunity.
Work will begin in mid-November over a 20km stretch of the highway between Miles and Dulacca.
This $10.2 million project was awarded to RoadTek, the department’s road construction arm, and is due for completion by the end of March 2012, it says
Reconstruction flood-damaged sections of Amiens Road, north of Stanthorpe, will begin this month.
The contract for this $1 million project was awarded to Southern Downs Regional Council to repair various sections over a 20km stretch between the intersection of New England Highway and the turn-off to Goldfields Road.
Delays of between five and 20 minutes can be expected on sections of the Warrego and Cunningham highways.
