Angela Murphy appointed to chair freight committee

Angela Murphy from Murphy Transport Solutions becomes the first woman to chair the VTA's general freight committee

October 18, 2011

A woman has for the first time been elected to lead the Victorian Transport Association’s (VTA) general freight committee.

Murphy Transport Solutions planning and resources manager Angela Murphy has been chosen as the chair of the committee and will replace outgoing Chairman Peter Anderson.

Another 11 senior executives were elected to lead the committee, which VTA CEO Phil Lovel describes as the “engine room” of the association. He says Murphy’s appointment is “a fantastic achievement” and accolade for her.

“Angela Murphy is testament to the fact that gender is no barrier to active industry representations at the highest level,” Lovel says.

“The VTA General Freight Committee can trace its origins back to the days of the Masters Carriers Association of Victoria prior to WWII and beyond into the 1950s and 1960s under the banner of Victorian Road Transport Association (VRTA).

The committee is responsible for shaping policy directions and initiatives pursued by the VTA on productivity issues, safety, technology uptake, people and environment. Glen Cameron Group General Manager Bruce Forsyth is the Vice Chairman.

“We’ve got outstanding leaders in the freight logistics industry represented on the GFC [general freight committee] and their knowledge and expert advice is highly valued by us,” Lovel says.
