Police are warning motorists of major road closures during this weekend’s Sydney Running Festival.
More than 30,000 people are expected to take part in four separate events on Sunday, September 18 – all starting at Bradfield Park at Milsons Point and finishing at the Sydney Opera House forecourt. The first event begins at 6.30am, with the final run starting at 9am.
NSW Police says the Sydney Harbour Bridge and roads in North Sydney, the CBD, Surry Hills and Pyrmont will start closing from 4am, while roads in Moore Park will close from 6am. All roads are expected to reopen by 1.30pm.
Special event clearways will also be in place from 1am until 1.30pm on Sunday and motorists are advised to check street signs before parking, to ensure their vehicles aren’t towed away.
NSW Police Superintendent Tony Crandell says a police operation involving the highway patrol, commuter crime unit and the bicycle unit will be staged during the event.
“We are very keen to ensure a safe and secure environment for the thousands of people taking part in the running festival,” he says.
“Obviously, there will be significant disruptions to traffic in and around the heart of the city on Sunday due to the many road closures in place.”
