Ombudsman goes knocking in rural NSW

Fair Work Ombudsman inspectors to converge on Condobolin and West Wyalong next month to educate employers on workplace laws

Fair Work Ombudsman inspectors will converge on Condobolin and West Wyalong next month to educate employers on workplace laws.

The department plans to distribute information packs to businesses previously covered by NSW industrial relations laws.

Fair Work Ombudsman Nicholas Wilson says the informal visits will help employers to understand national workplace laws, including employment standards and Modern Awards.

“Information packs being distributed include helpful resources such as fact sheets, templates and best practice guides – providing advice on practical steps employers can take to adjust to the federal system,” he says.

Wilson says inspectors are focused on helping businesses increase their understanding of national laws and meeting their workplace obligations.

He says businesses need to know what Award applies to their employees, along with the correct classifications and pay rates.
