September 6, 2011

An $11.5 light vehicle training facility has opened at Queensland’s largest trade and technician training institute to support almost 1,000 students trying to break into the industry.

State MP Judy Spence officially opened the 4000sq m facility, which is housed at SkillsTech Australia’s Acacia Ridge Training Centre, south of Brisbane.

“This new facility will support approximately 900 light auto vehicle students and we plan to work with the industry and the community to grow this significantly over the next five years,” SkillsTech Australia Institute director Mary Campbell says.

“This new state-of-the-art facility will be home to light automotive trades, including auto mechanical, engine reconditioning and automotive electrical.”

The Queensland Government committed more than $200 million to the development of the facility to address skills shortages. Campbell says more than $140 million has been invested so far.
