The Executive Director of the Transport Industries Skills Centre in the ACT, Bob Waldron, will join the board of TruckSafe amid planned changes to the accreditation scheme’s standards.

TruckSafe Chairman Stephen Marley says Waldron is a valuable addition to the board due to his extensive involvement in industry safety. He says Waldron is leading a team focused on driver education and providing a skilled transport workforce.

Waldron’s appointment comes as the TruckSafe board prepares to upgrade the driver health standard over the next few months.

"The board will be looking at workplace health and safety, driver health screening (including medicals), the role of the medical practitioner, rehabilitation and fatigue management," Marley says.

"The TruckSafe board is made up of a group of committed and professional individuals and Bob’s appointment, with his extensive experience, will bring another perspective to the ongoing work of the board."

The Skills Centre is part of the national Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC) network, which Marley says helps develop industry competency standards that form the basis of nationally accredited training.

He says the TLISC’s work is similar to the TruckSafe standards relating to training, management, maintenance, and workplace and driver health.
