Positions open for Port of Hastings board

Victorian Government calls on individuals to apply for a board position with the new Port of Hastings Development Authority

August 29, 2011

The Victorian Government is calling on highly skilled and qualified people to apply for a board position with the new Port of Hastings Development Authority (PoHDA).

The PoHDA board is responsible for providing strategic direction for the planning and development of a second Victorian container port at Hastings, Minister for Ports Denis Napthine says.

“This will be one of the state’s largest infrastructure projects and will help secure the future of the Victorian freight industry through the remainder of the century,” Napthine says.

“When appointed, the board will play a key role in securing the future of the Victorian imports and exports for the remainder of the century. This vital task is imperative for the continued growth of the state economy.

“On top of overseeing the development of a second container facility, the PoHDA board will also contribute to the development of Hastings’ existing bulk and break port facilities.”

The prospective board members need to demonstrate skills including strategic planning, organisational governance and business and financial management.

“Experience and knowledge in port management, port related industries and regional economic development would be a further advantage,” Napthine says.

The government will appoint board members on a part-time basis that will be extended for up to three years.

Expressions of interest close on September 9.
