Advertising campaign begins ahead of IAP extension

RTA begins advertising campaign to remind mobile crane operators of the requirement to enrol in IAP by October 5

August 22, 2011

A month-long advertising campaign has started in NSW to remind mobile crane operators of the need to enrol in the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) by October 5.

IAP, which has applied to trucks using higher mass limits (HML) since July 2009, monitors vehicles via GPS to ensure they stay on approved routes.

A spokesperson for the RTA says the decision to extend the coverage of IAP will improve road access management and road safety.

“From 5 October high-risk mobile cranes are going to be monitored under the IAP to make sure there is consistency across the board for all HML and special purpose vehicles,” the spokesperson says.

“A three month transition started in June to allow crane operators sufficient time to enrol in the IAP.”
