Benz sells retail business in Adelaide

Adtrans to take over as construction disruption at site helps spark sale

By Rob McKay | July 3, 2011

Mercedes Benz Australia has sold in retail operations in Adelaide to AP Eagers subsidiary Adtrans, which will operate the business as Daimler Trucks.

The transfer, for an undisclosed sum and which includes employees, is due to be finalised on August 31.

The manufacturer’s Australian arm will retain the truck resale team at SelecTrucks in Adelaide but will withdraw from its Mercedes Benz Commercial Vehicles positions at the Angle Park and Regency Park sites.

A spokesman says the move comes as the sites face two years of disruption due to significant road works there.

"When the opportunity came to sell that business to Adtrans and they were keen to be involved in it, it was a win-win situation," the spokesman says.

"To have people like them endorse the brand is a pretty strong thing."

No other divestments are planned, he adds.

A spokesman for AP Eagers was not available to comment today.
