Work has started on an upgrade to a dangerous intersection in South Australia that has been responsible for more than 30 crashes in recent years.
The Federal Government is spending $240,000 as part of the Black Spot Program to install more traffic lights and extend three existing turning lanes at the intersection between Cross, Unley and Belair Roads in Kingswood.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese expects the improvements, recommended by a panel of road safety exerts, to be completed next month.
“The Black Spot Program has a proven record of saving lives with an evaluation showing that it prevented at least 32 fatalities and more than 1,500 serious injuries in its first three years,” he says.
Albanese says the Federal Government has already committed $40 million to fixing more than 300 dangerous black spots on local South Australian roads.
