The funeral of noted industry identity David Hay will take place in the Victorian city of Ballarat early next week.
Hay died earlier this week from cancer. In a productive transport and logistics career, Hay held many senior posts in companies such as Linfox, Mayne Nickless, PGA and FBT Transwest.
“He was a well respected man in the industry who gave it all he had,” FBT Transwest Managing Director Cameron Dunn says.
“Our thoughts are with his wife Christine and his family.”
The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) paid tribute to Hay.
“It’s a very sad passing for the industry,” VTA CEO Phil Lovel says.
“I’ve known David for 25 years at least. A fantastic bloke, very experienced, worked in all the good companies. There’s not a person I know who’d have a bad word to say about David.
“You know where you were with him. He was a very strong personality but always fair to deal with.”
Lovel also praised Hays work as an industry representative.
“Some people sit back in their own companies and don’t contribute to the industry but he was a really top, experienced industry contributor in industrial relations, general freight and, in the latter years in dangerous goods,” he says.
Lovel nominated Hay’s leadership of the National Bulk Tanker Association as a major highlight of his work, along with his support for young people.
The funeral will be held at 1pm on Tuesday by Peter Tobin Funerals at the Doveton Funeral Centre, 1251 Doveton Street North, Ballarat.
Donations to Cancer Council Victoria are requested in lieu of flowers.
