Allan wants commitment on Calder Highway upgrade

MP wants government to commit to upgrading a notorious section of the Calder Highway

The Victorian Government is being asked to fund urgently needed upgrades to the Calder Freeway in regional Victoria to improve safety.

The Ravenswood interchange on the Calder Highway outside Bendigo, which services central and northern Victoria, has been home to a series of fatal and serious injury crashes in the past two years.

Bendigo East MP Jacinta Allan is calling on the government to match a promise from the former Labor government to spend $7 million to improve the highway.

"The $7 million of funding would have seen the planning done and the project ready to go and ready to receive future federal and state funding support. Disappointingly when Labor made this commitment it was opposed by the Liberal-National coalition," Allan says.

The highway is a vital link for freight, business, commuters and tourists between Melbourne, Bendigo and Mildura.
