NSW truck driver back-paid $11,500 after his employer failed to pay sick leave and termination pay

A NSW truck driver has been reimbursed $11,500 after complaining to the workplace inspector when his employer failed to pay sick leave and termination pay.
The Wollongong driver approached the Fair Work Ombudsman to secure his entitlements, which included three weeks of sick leave.
The Ombudsman says the driver was promptly paid after inspectors contacted the business and explained its workplace obligations.
Following the investigation, the trucking operator has now implemented systems to ensure it does not repeat the same mistake.
The Ombudsman did not name the business because no legal action was taken against it.
Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says inspectors put a strong focus on educating and assisting employers to understand and comply with workplace laws.
“We are serious about our job of ensuring regional communities understand their rights and obligations in the workplace,” he says.
