Truck driver receives $12,500 after employer failed to pay annual leave when it terminated him

A truck driver has received $12,500 in backpay after his employer failed to pay him annual leave when it terminated his position in the company.
The West Australian driver complained to the Fair Work Ombudsman, which stepped in to tell the employer to pay the outstanding sum.
“After Fair Work inspectors contacted the company, the driver was promptly paid all money owed,” a statement from the Ombudsman says.
The workplace watchdog did not name the company, a policy it maintains unless legal action is launched.
The $12,500 was part of a pool of more than $21,000 inspectors recovered for Kalgoorlie workers. It included $8,700 for 18 hospitality workers underpaid the minimum hourly rate.
Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says the mistakes were inadvertent and no further action will be taken against the businesses.
