TWU allowed to ballot Transpacific workers

Union gets the all clear to seek support from Transpacific workers for industrial action

May 16, 2011

The Transport Workers Union (TWU) has been granted an order to ballot employees of waste transporter Transpacific Industries as part of ongoing negotiations to reach a new enterprise agreement.

Fair Work Australia Commissioner Ian Cambridge upheld the TWU’s application to ballot workers at Transpacific’s Hume site in the ACT.

The union will ask employees if they support industrial action, including an unlimited number of bans on overtime work, stoppages ranging from four hours up to seven days and an unlimited number of indefinite stoppages.

“I am satisfied that the applicant has been, and is, genuinely trying to reach an agreement with the employer of the employees who are to be balloted,” Cambridge says.
