Rare appointment of a woman also strengthens legal resources and Asian experience

Toll Group has moved to address two issues with the appointment, announced today, of lawyer Nicola Wakefield Evans as a non-executive director.

The company has been under some shareholder scrutiny regarding the lack of female representation on the board.

Meanwhile, its store of expertise related to its North Asian growth region will be bolstered by Wakefield Evans, until recently a Managing Partner International at the Hong Kong branch of international law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques.

Whilst there, she acted for major Australian, Asian and international corporations, including UC Rusal, Lion Nathan, BHP Billiton, Macquarie Bank, AMP, GE, Morgan Stanley, Fushan, APAC and a number of companies based and owned in China over four years.

According to Mallesons, she is rated as one of Australia’s leading mergers and acquisition lawyers - an attractive asset to have given Toll’s inveterate acquisitiveness.

She also has expertise in corporate governance, commercial and media law.
