A $1.4 million upgrade to a road train assembly area in Western Australia has been completed, giving more truck drivers the chance to rest along the Great Northern Highway.
Funded by the federal and West Australian governments, the upgrade has expanded the parking area new weighing technology at the site.
The assembly area is at the corner of the Great Northern Highway and Apple Street in Upper Swan, and has been expanded from 6,000sqm to 29,000sqm.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says the vehicle weighing technology means Main Roads inspectors will be able to do their job safely and more efficiently.
The project, funded under the Federal Government’s $70 heavy vehicle initiative to build more rest areas, also laid new line markings and erected barriers to mitigate noise and visual pollution.
Albanese says the program has been responsible for funding eight new and five refurbished rest stops, six new parking bays and four new and 16 refurbished decoupling bays across Western Australia.
