Union urges clients to set reasonable schedules for truck drivers stranded on the Pacific Highway after a fatal crash

Clients must set reasonable schedules and rule out penalising truck drivers who were stranded on the Pacific Highway this week, the Transport Workers Union says.
A backlog of B-doubles built up on the highway near Macksville on April 5 after a truck laden with chemicals collided with a car and exploded in flames.
Police allowed some B-doubles through to try and reduce the line of traffic, but diverted most heavy vehicles as clean-up crews doused flames and removed the wreckage.
“Delays at this site will affect the log books of affected drivers for the next week. The last thing we need to see are drivers pushed to get the load there in an unreasonable time under the threat of penalty,” TWU National Secretary Tony Sheldon says.
