Planning study to begin this month on a new north-south transit corridor for Adelaide

A planning study on a new north-south transit corridor for Adelaide will soon begin as part of plans to improve freight and commuter traffic.
A consortium of Kellogg, Brown, and Root, URS Australia and Mott MacDonald Australia won the tender to complete the planning study for the South Road corridor.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese says the study – to begin this month – will ensure the project is completed in a coordinated and strategic manner.
“The study will develop a plan for a multi-million dollar upgrade of approximately 9km of South Road between the South Road Superway and Gallipoli Underpass as part of a dedicated north-south corridor stretching 78km from Gawler to Old Noarlunga,” Albanese says.
As part of the study, the consortium will speak to local businesses, residents and stakeholders on and around the South Road corridor.
“The study will assess traffic forecasts, as well as potential environmental, social and economic impacts, to identify the best alignment for the nine kilometre upgrade project,” South Australian Transport Minister Patrick Conlon says.
The Federal Government is providing $70 million to fund planning studies on Adelaide’s north-south corridor as part of a $500 million commitment to upgrade South Road.
