February 10, 2011

Queensland Police is urging anyone towing a trailer to ensure their load is secure after a near miss west of Brisbane earlier this week.

A cyclist in Toowoomba recently avoided serious injury after debris fell from an unsecure load.

Townsville District Acting Superintendent Ian Haughton says motorists involved in the clean-up and rebuilding phase after of Cyclone Yasi need to ensure loads are appropriately secured prior to travelling.

“During this period of increased activity, involving the transportation and removal of debris, it is imperative that motorists are aware of the need to fully secure any loads being transported in trailers, trucks and in the rear of utility vehicles,” he says.

Those caught towing unsecured loads face a $233 fine.
