As NSW election draws closer, the Greens are taking their anti-motorway message to Opposition leader Barry O’Farrell

As NSW voters mark the days until the state election, the Greens are attempting to convince the Opposition to scrap any plans to upgrade motorways.
Greens MP David Shoebridge wants O’Farrell to reject upgrades to the M4 East and M5 in favour of public transport initiatives.
Labelling motorways as “car magnets”, Shoebridge says upgrades will not solve Sydney’s increasing traffic congestion
“New and expanded motorways like the M4 East and M5 are a non-solution to Sydney’s transport frustrations,” he says.
“They will deliver long term failure for Sydney and offer no relief from congestion, poor air quality or climate change.”
Documents obtained by the Sydney Morning Herald show the NSW Government botched its bid for funding for the M4 and M5 projects, leading to Infrastructure Australia rejected the proposals.
“Infrastructure Australia assessment of NSW’s failed transport proposals is a kick in the guts to Sydney’s long suffering commuters,” Shoebridge says.
