Deadline nears for ATA elections

Owner-drivers and small fleet operators interested in joining the ATA have one week to nominate for the 2011 elections

February 1, 2011

Owner-drivers and small fleet operators interested in joining the Australian Trucking Association have one week to nominate for the 2011 elections.

Nominations to represent owner-drivers and small fleet operators on the ATA’s general council close on February 7.

One representative will be elected for each position. ATA Chairman David Simon says the election is an opportunity for owner-drivers and small fleet operators to have a say about the industry’s future.

“The ATA council sets the ATA’s strategic policy direction. It deals with the critical issues that will determine the industry’s long term future, including safety, the road transport laws and operator viability,” Simon says.

“I urge all owner drivers and small fleet operators to register to vote. I also urge owner drivers and small fleet operators who want to build the industry’s future to consider nominating for a position.”

Voters must be on the commonwealth electoral roll and operate or purchase one to five trucks over 4.5 tonnes.

To become a candidate for the owner driver position, an operator must own, be purchasing or leasing one truck over 4.5 tonnes and drive it.
For the small fleet position, an operator must own, be purchasing or leasing two to five trucks over 4.5 tonnes.

Candidates must be members of an ATA member organisation.
