Trucking groups will hold meetings with state and federal government ministers to secure assistance for flood-affected operators

Trucking groups will hold meetings with government ministers in an attempt to secure financial assistance for operators affected by recent floods.
The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) will lead a delegation on January 31 to meet Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese.
In a letter to Queensland Trucking Association members, QTA CEO Peter Garske says the group will be part of the delegation.
“At the centre of our submissions will be the need for financial relief for trucking operators adversely affected by the flood crisis,” Garske writes to members.
As well as being appointed to the Bligh Government’s flood recovery taskforce, Garske will chair a meeting of Lockyer Valley trucking operators, Queensland Deputy Premier Paul Lucas, Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace and Transport and Main Roads Director General Dave Stewart.
The Lockyer Valley was one of the hardest hit regions from the recent Queensland floods. A total of 35 people have been killed by floods across Queensland so far.
The meeting was due to be held on January 27, but has been postponed.
Garske says the topics to be discussed include the impact of floods on primary producers and the implications for transporters, opportunities for financial relief and how employment will be affected.
