Tolls reinstated on Gateway and Logan motorways

Queensland Government reinstates tolls after they were temporarily scrapped due to floods

January 18, 2011

Tolls on the Gateway and Logan motorways have been reinstated after they were temporarily scrapped due to the Queensland floods.

Tolls were lifted last week to encourage motorists to leave the city as the Brisbane River began rising.

The tolls on the Clem7 and the Go Between Bridge have also been reinstated.

“We wanted to do everything to help Queenslanders get out of the centre and back home safely – including shouldering the cost of the tolls ourselves,” Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace says.

“Now the city is back open, back online and back in business, we need the tolls back on and not draining badly needed funds from the state.”

Wallace says the Government faces a “massive task” of rebuilding the damaged road network from the floods, which inundated large sections of Queensland.

He says roads received more damage than any other piece of government infrastructure, adding that the full extent of the damage is unknown.

“Around 70 per cent of the roads cut to date in the worst flooding on record have now reopened but that does not mean they are fully repaired,” Wallace says.
