Westgate Ports’ decision to team with Australian Paper has paid off, with the logistics operator recognised at the Lloyds List DC Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards.

Westgate won the Transport and Logistics Intermodal Award for its work in freighting Australian Paper’s pulp and paper products.

The operator is now looking at ways to expand its contract with Australian Paper, which is currently the second largest exporter at the Port of Melbourne.

“Together, we aim to import and export cargo from Victoria Dock to link with rail and utilise Australian Paper’s site at Maryvale as a regional hub for other freight in the Gippsland area,” Westgate Executive Chairman Sam Tarascio says.

He says the award recognises that Westgate Ports – although a newcomer – is capable of matching larger and well-established companies for service.
