November 15, 2010

The Fair Work Ombudsman will make educational visits to about 135 businesses in Southern NSW this month.

Inspectors will door-knock businesses to provide information packs to employers to help them understand national workplace laws.

Inspectors will visit about 120 businesses in Merimbula, Eden and surrounding suburbs this week and about 15 businesses in Kangaroo Valley next week.

Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says the informal visits are aimed at assisting employers to understand national employment standards and modern awards.

Information packs being distributed include fact sheets, templates and guides outlining steps employers can take to comply with their obligations.

“We are very serious about our job of building knowledge and creating fairer workplaces and we are strongly focused on ensuring the community understands its workplace rights and obligations,” Campbell says.
