October 27, 2010

Managers from three leading transport companies will compete for the top trucking technical award at this year’s Technical and Maintenance Conference.

Bunker Freight Lines’ trailer fleet manager Chris Gass has been nominated alongside Mitchell Corporation maintenance and asset manager Rob Hodges and Mountain Industries maintenance manager Graham Nash for the Craig Roseneder Award.

Presented by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), the award recognises the men and women who work behind the scenes in the industry’s workshops.

ATA Chairman David Simon says the award is a crucial part of the industry’s calendar because recognises those who have contributed to taking the industry to a higher level of technical excellence.

“The award forms an important part of the trucking industry’s efforts to promote the commitment and achievement of individuals and organisations within the industry,” Simon says.

The winner will receive a scholarship to attend the American Trucking Association’s Maintenance Council meeting in early 2011 and $1500 in spending money.

The winner will also receive a trophy and gift and a complimentary registration for the 2011 Technical and Maintenance Conference.

Gass has been involved in the trucking industry for almost 30 years and has been a leader in implementing trailer innovations, wiring standards and disc brake technology.

Hodges has been credited with improving Mitchell’s bottom line through new asset management systems, a just-in-time spare parts program and performance indicators for suppliers.

Nash, who is a member of the ATA’s technical council, is involved in trucking safety initiatives and is part of the Newcastle and Hunter Road Transport Awareness Group.

He has also been recognised for building relationships with customers and suppliers and improving Mount Industries’ environmental credentials.

The winner will be announced on November 15 during the awards dinner of the Technical and Maintenance Conference, which is being held in Victoria.
