Police are searching for a truck driver who fled a crash on the Hume Highway in NSW today involving two prime movers.

The accident happened in the south of NSW near Holbrook about 3am when two southbound trucks collided.

Police say one truck rolled onto its side before stopping across the northbound lane of the highway. The other truck was only slightly damaged.

“The driver of the overturned truck left the scene before emergency services arrived,” a police statement says.

“It is unknown if the driver suffered any serious injuries and police will be checking with local hospitals and medical clinics across the area.”

Police say the driver of the other truck was not injured.

Traffic will be significantly affected, with police closing one lane while investigations and salvaging efforts take place.

“Motorists are warned to expect delays until at least midday,” the police statement says.

Anyone with information about the truck driver has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The accident followed a fatal crash on the Newell Highway near Dubbo yesterday.

An 89-year-old man died when his car collided head-on with a truck travelling south about midday.

The car driver died at the scene. Police say the truckie was not injured but had to be treated for shock.

Both lanes of the Newell were closed until 5:30pm yesterday while investigations were carried out and the wreckage was removed.
