Northline issues national tender for trucking contract

Freight operator Northline issues its first nationwide tender for a three-year trucking contract

August 16, 2010

Trucking companies will be invited to bid for three years’ work with Northline after the national freight operator unveils its first nationwide tender today.

Northline will today invite expressions of interest from companies to provide depot-to-depot deliveries, direct customer-to-customer services and linehaul operations.

The move is a break from tradition for the company, which specialises in servicing remote locations via a combination of road and rail.

“On previous occasions, we’ve worked on a state-by-state or regional basis,” Northline CEO Craige Whitton says.

“Our objective in seeking expressions of interest nationally is to identify the major trucking companies with the range of resources and commitment to quality that fit both commercially and culturally with Northline.”

Interested operators must submit initial expressions of interest by August 23, with the deadline for final expressions on September 22.

Northline expects to make a decision on its preferred supplier in late October.

The company, which employs more than 400 people, runs an extensive network which includes logistics, warehousing and international freight services.

Its national network spans cities and regional areas such as Melbourne, Sydney, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Brisbane and Alice Springs.
