Adelaide's Northern Expressway will be completed three months early, cutting travel times for motorists

The multi-million dollar Northern Expressway project in Adelaide is expected to be completed three months ahead of schedule.
The $564 million freeway will begin operating on September 13 after stimulus money used by the Federal Government accelerated works on the project.
The Federal Government committed $451.2 million to the project, which will link the Sturt Highway with Port Wakefield Road.
South Australian Infrastructure and Transport Minister Patrick Conlon says the Northern Expressway will cut travel times for people travelling between Adelaide and the north by up to 20 minutes.
The announcement was made during the opening of the Port Wakefield Road Bridge, which is one of 15 bidges along the 23km Northern Expressway.
“The 90-metre Port Wakefield Bridge is one of the last major milestones in the completion of the Northern Expressway project,” Conlon says.
South Australian Premier Mike Rann says the freeway is one of the state’s largest road projects in the last 50 years.
